Is this true of every theme?
Have you tried uninstalling, reboot, reinstall?

Also what phone do you have?

I reboot my phone (G1) every couple of days when hitting the home button takes 2 minutes =P

It always comes up fine. takes a few minutes to load the first time, but I definitely do not have to reapply the theme.

What does it actually show dude? A blank theme? Or the Sweeter Home default (green) theme?

I'm also finding this latest update to have a problem reloading my theme when it force closes. I have to power down and power back up because it never reloads the theme at all. I can't hit menu to even attempt to load the theme. I get a black screen that still has the notification bar at the top - which I can still pull down, but the screen/theme never comes back until I reboot the device.

I am on a Droid, and it is occuring on my modified version of the Pwnage3 theme. I didn't have this problem with the same theme previously, but it did force close a fair amount. It always reloaded the theme, though.

I switched to my EasyScrollRH theme and haven't had any problems so far. I will post here if I have any similar problems on the new theme.

Having spent the day messing around with various themes and even trying to develop a new theme, the problem appears to be with having several widgets in the theme. I used the previous version of Sweeter Home with the same theme I was trying to use today and didn't have a problem other than the occasional force close, but it always reloaded quickly.

Now if I use a theme with several widgets, I can barely scroll from screen to screen. It gives me redraw errors all the time, it force closes and goes to a black screen and from which I may or may not be able to reload the theme. Often I have to power off and restart to get any theme to load. The clock widget (beautiful widget small clock/weather with Obsidian) theme has trouble inflating about half the time. When the screen is black, the pulldown shade is still active and I can pull it down.

When I was developing a new theme, it seemed to be working pretty well until I added several toggle widgets and widgets for Advanced Task Manager and Mototorch on one page. After that, I couldn't scroll from page to page, even on pages without widgets. It almost constantly gives me bugs or force closes and gives me a black screen which never reloads the theme. I can switch back to a theme without widgets or just one widget, and really not have any significant problems.

Hopefully this helps narrow down the problem.

I'm happy to upload an example of a theme that works and one that doesn't if you think that will help.

Did you log bug reports and sent logs when force close?

yes...for the ones that I could. In some cases, it wouldn't actually let me open anything in the menu, I just had to power off.

It just loads to a black screen with the notification bar at the top. I have found that I do not have to actually reload it. I just have to repeatedly hit the home button (droid) and it loads up (eventually). Not really a problem..a little annoying, but it isn't a big deal.

After playing around with it some more and editing my theme, I think one of the biggest issues is the gradient in the color blocks. I removed all gradients and made them solid (still partially transparent) and the theme is running without lag and no force closes. I just added 6 toggle widgets to the theme, so I will see if it continues to work without issues. So far so good, though.
