Newb question - Springboard within springboard
Added by Cap10JPMorgan almost 2 years ago
Ok, first I would like to apologize, because I am brand new and I'm SURE this is out there somewhere, but the only results I have found just say they found it somewhere else, lol.
I don't necessarily want someone to hold my hand, but even if you can point me in the right direction that would be great. I cannot figure out how to add a springboard within a springboard. Or better yet, how do I EDIT the springboard once it is added to a tray? If I create a new springboard on its own, I cant figure out how to add it to a tray and if I just go to a tray and hit add springboard, I cant figure out how to add a specific springboard or how to edit it at that point.
Again, very sorry to be such a newb but I just started messing around with this yesterday. Thanks for any help and I look forward to working with all of you more soon. SweeterHome is now my #1 reason I am happy with my Droid!

Sorry, I didn't explain it accurately. So I figured out how to add the springboard to a springboard, but I cant edit it. It is just a red square. I guess THATS what Im really asking... how to edit that, because I cant select it anymore, just the entire tray.

At the moment I dont think you can. I remember someone else asking this in another thread and it was suggested you could use another third party home replacement app to change the icons. I think that was debunked though. Sorry I dont have the links.

thanks for the heads up. I have been searching for this for a while now and find little tidbits of info... most of which link to a page in the faq that doesnt exist (http://www.sweeterhome.com/projects/user/wiki/Springboard_Overview) regarding using a springblock instead of a springboard icon. i guess i just have to wait until that info is posted, lol.

I'll try and simplify this as springboards are really the most complicated thing in SweeterHome.
There are two things you can do.
Create a Custom Block and add a Springboard to that.
or
Create a Springboard Block.
If you create a Springboard inside of a Custom Block it will create an icon that controls a specific Block.
If you create a Springboard Block it can appear like a Color Block and can control multiple other Blocks.
The only thing you can do with a Springboard is longpress it and drag it out of the Custom Block
To edit the Springboard Block longpress it while in Edit Mode and press Edit. The first Option there is "Controlled" which is a list of all Blocks on this Screen. They are toggles to define if the block will be controlled by this Springboard Block or not.

surprisingly, that made a lot of sense to me, lol. thanks! i finally found something else that helped too... basically, it looks like i will have to create a picture box for any icons and overlay that with springblock that open the objects i want them too. sound about right?
again, thanks everyone for going out of your way to help a clueless beginner, lol.

Yes, you've got it right.
Check out my solarsystem theme. It uses planets for icons with springboard blocks. I'm sure other people have done this too...but I don't recall which ones at the moment.

I'm updating the documentation around springboards right now. Hopefully it will provide a little more insight

wait, so i am understaing this correctly? there is absolutely no way to edit the red square that shows up for an springboard icon that is added to a tray? you are stuck with a red square?
RE: Newb question - Springboard within springboard - Added by genei09 almost 2 years ago
thats basically right. you can change things just like any other icon via editing the custom tray. This is why springboard blocks are generally preferred.
