Calendar & Gallery Problems

Added by joemomma almost 2 years ago

Good morning(here), I installed the theme and went about setting the various areas up but ran across to problems I could not resolve on my own. The first is the calendar. I have Pure Calendar installed and it appears to run correctly when installed independently of the theme. When selected from within the theme, it only shows a message "Loading data..." and has been doing so for 6 hours now. Second, when I select "Gallery" from the left pane I get the notice that "You attempted to trigger a missing item named Gallery. The author..." Gallery is installed, and functions correctly when launched directly from the Droid Applications menu.

I love the theme look and functionality, and hope you can shed some light on what might be going on here. Thanks.

Rick

Hey man. With Pure calendar you need to EDIT the widget options. Pretty sure that will fix it.

With Gallery it's possible the author had a different app also called gallery. Try removing that icon and replacing with your own gallery shortcut.

Well... seems the issue is at partly due to the PureCalendar widget. I am beginning to see posts regarding this crop up since the 2/20 update. No matter what size I select, the calendar does not run, unfortunately. Why it does so outside of the theme box is beyond me. As far as the gallery, I don't seem familiar enough to change the function of the theme while in edit mode.

Did the theme you downloaded already have the pure calendar widget in it, or did you try to add it yourself?

The area you are touching to launch "Gallery" is it a Custom Block, Theme Block, All Apps Block, or Action--Advanced Block? If it is one of the first three then you need to remove the icon for Gallery from it. If you can't long press and remove the icon then the block is locked, and you need to long press the particular Block while in edit mode to uncheck that setting. If it is an Action--Advanced Block then you're better off deleting the block and trying to create something new with a Custom Block.

What theme is this that you're using?

I had to dl the widget then select it. GoogleCal runs fine in the window (hell, even a digital clock widget) runs there. I tried leaving GoogleCal in but it is painful after running Pure Calendar. Have not fooled around with the Gallery issue as yet. Been too busy.

I am the Pure calendar dev.
I tried Pure calendar with Sweeter Home 2 beta.

Sweeter Home is not able to launch the Configuration page of my widgets (not only Pure calendar but all of them).
I don't know why Sweeter Home cannot launch the configuration panel.
I tried Beautiful widget, and this is the same behaviour : the widget configuration panel is NOT OPENED on widget insertion (but BW can start without configuration, PCal can't)!

I joined the logcat during widget insertion.
For me, this is a Sweeter Home bug.... sorry.

I have to say that it works fine with multiple other Home replacement apps such as dxTop, Home++, Launcher+ ...

Koxx is right -- the current beta, build 727, has a bug related to widget configuration. A fix for this is being tested and should be available in the next public beta build.

Looking forward to it! Any thoughts on my "Gallery" issue?

/points to previous post with questions about Gallery issues

I saw the post, but I am not interested in editing/creating my own theme (hence using a pre-made). Certainly it would be easy for the creator(s) to comment on what they had in mind here - there are no other Market apps called "Gallery" that I can find.

People on these forums are just trying to help Rick,

The test they asked you to try will take no more than a minute of your time.

Can you long press and remove the Gallery Icon from the tray (not in edit mode)? If you can remove it, and add in the one from your apps tray. Done. (10 seconds)

If you are unable, then you will have to do some minor editing. Go into edit mode, select the tray in question, edit it, and turn off the lock. exit edit mode, and perform the step above. (should not be more than a minute).

When you post on a forum for help, and people offer it, it is rather rude to ignore (or even refuse) any trouble shooting they offer you.

- There is no icon to be replaced

Fair enough, BUT, remember that the builder of the theme is building for themselves. And sharing for the fun of it. They may not be building with a specific audience in mind. Myself, I try and make everything fairly generic for my shared themes so it's easy for everyone to use. But others include paid apps and all sorts of other stuff because it suits them best. Something to remember.

It's pretty simple for you to make one edit, and the cats on here have tried to step that through you in simple steps. We're here to help if you decide you do want to attempt this one edit. :)

Rick,

You have continued to avoid the easiest and most obvious diagnostic step from my post.

What theme is this that you're using?

Your description of the error lacks detail and has some confusing terminology:

when I select "Gallery" from the left pane I get the notice that "You attempted to trigger a missing item named Gallery. The author..." Gallery is installed, and functions correctly when launched directly from the Droid Applications menu.

"Droid Applications menu" here I'm not sure if you are making a reference to the stock home screen application tray or another part of your mystery theme. "from the left pane" does not provide enough detailed information to provide assistance and so I attempted to ask for more information in addition to making a few suggestions. After electing to ignore my questions at least twice you make it known you expect the author of your selected theme, whatever it might be, to jump in and offer advice. As to your inability to find another "Gallery" application in the market, this is unsurprising. However there have been a number of different "Gallery" applications released with the different builds of Android across multiple devices. It is entirely possible that the author of the theme with no name has a different version of the application than you do.

From your last post you state that There is no icon to be replaced. This causes even greater confusion as to how you are interacting with the questioned theme to generate this error. If it is not an icon then I would have to hazard a guess that it is an Action--Advanced block however it could simply be a transparent icon. Without the theme in front of me to edit it is impossible to say for sure.

When I download someone's creation expecting it to work and it does not, I am content to wait until it does before keeping it. When the bugs are worked out, it will be worth donating or buying. Until then I prefer not to make changes that will likely be overwritten in the next release. This is a personal choice we make.

A statement like this would indicate that you don't have a clear understanding of the way that SweeterHome works. First, this is beta software. You have to go a bit out of your way to install this on your phone. So your expectation for this "to work" is a bit out of place. Second, themes are largely made available by the community and not the developer of SweeterHome and as such it is entirely possible for a theme author to create a theme that does not work and make it available for download. Expecting full functionality of any random theme you happen to download is like expecting any random shareware application to run without issue on your computer. To then ask assistance when you encounter an error in the way you have is like asking Microsoft for support with that shareware application, but of course without providing the name of the application. Suggesting that a future release might render any changes you make to the unidentified theme would be overwritten shows further ignorance to the structure of SweeterHome. To date there has only been one critical change to the way themes behave in SweeterHome not only was it a change for the better but it was also a change that only affected more detailed/complicated themes. The launching of an application is an extremely simple operation by comparison and one that should not change.

I would argue that presuming an individual does not appreciate offered help is rude. I explained myself and made no additional issue of the fact. I am a consultant by trade and make suggestions to individuals and companies all the time. When they choose not to avail themselves, I shrug and move on. I do not find it rude - because it is, ultimately, their decision to make.

It was not said that you didn't appreciate offered help, but that you were flat out ignoring it. As a consultant it is one thing for someone to elect to not follow your advice, it is another to pay little attention to the 30min presentation you are giving and interrupting you 5min into it to say they aren't interested. Also the people here are volunteers, we don't make any money giving this advice and helping SweeterHome. So if you're the kind of person that doesn't say "Thank you" to someone that holds the elevator door open for you then I suppose ignoring offered help wouldn't seem rude.
