Slow in switching screens

Added by seedubs13 almost 2 years ago

My biggest issue with SH2 is that it takes in some cases 10 seconds to switch between screens. I'm killing other apps with advanced task manager so that shouldn't be an issue. I'm not getting many FCs, but SH2 is slow in loading like other posts have mentioned. What I believe others haven't asked is why would it take so long to switch to the left screen or back to the main home screen?

If I close SH from advanced task manager it takes a while to open up again and then will run smoothly for a while. Eventually, the problem returns. I typically have about 50ish MB free in memory so I don't think that should be a problem.

I'm running SH2 on my droid with a modified version of the sensish theme. I have 2 screens each with horizontal views as well. The main screen has 3 springboards, 5 widgets, messaging block, calendar block, and call log block. The second screen just has 7 text springboards and a date block.

Any suggestions???

What SH version are you running? (Menu > More > About)

I think this is a bug that comes with using a lot of processor heavy objects (widgets/pictures); because returning to the center screen with the back button will work instantaneously no matter what speed your swipe is going at

I'm using SH2 build: eclair-765

The back button may work, I'll try that out, but I have the same slow down going to the left screen and there's no back button for that :(

Also, just to clarify, when I swipe either direction, the screen will shift about 1/10th of the way so I can see the swipe has begun, then it pauses for 3 - 10 seconds.

If you restart your phone it's fine right? How long in hours before you encounter hangs?

RE: Slow in switching screens - Added by seedubs13 almost 2 years ago

If I restart the phone or even if I close the SH2 from advanced task manager then the program is smooth again. In terms of hours, sometimes it's 3 hours, sometimes shorter. I haven't really timed it, but I'll keep track and update the post.

So it's been 35 minute and my delay is up to 3-10 seconds. I've quit everything running in the background and according to advanced task manager I have 79 MB free. I'm puzzled... any other thoughts?

I'd upload my theme so you can check it out, but I've been unable to upload in any of the versions of SH2.

Uninstall SH2.

Reinstall - and before you launch it shut your phone down.

Restart and wait for 5 mins while the SD goes through it's check etc. Then launch into SH2 from the home prompt.

See how that goes.

Also, make sure you have NO widgets running on your stock home! :)

Is someone testing this?
If so, please give a report (MUCH appreciated)
If not I suppose I can when I have time.

1. Got rid of all widgets running on the stock home
2. Uninstall SH2
3. Reinstall
4. Shutdown
5. Restart and wait 5 min
6. Launched SH2
7. Reloaded my theme
8. Re-added shortcuts, direct dials/texts, widgets, etc.
9. Return to SUCKage

I've had SH2 up and running for about 15 min and it takes about 4-7 seconds to scroll between screens. Any other thoughts?

Uninstall/Reinstall did allow me to upload my theme - SensinspiredRemix by seedubs13 if that helps.

Also, I noticed the SH2 has 2 application instances in advanced task manager. If I end one, they both disappear. They are both using the same amount of memory, but I don't know if that gives anymore insight.

Thanks for all your help so far! I love SH2, but I need it to be functional.

tested the fix out, problem still exists.

I have a similar experience. I thought it was the graphics in the themes I've built, but the pattern is the same.

After a while graphics tend to render incorrectly and screen switching slows down. Killing all apps (including sweeter home) helps for a while, as does restarting the phone.

Not using the phone for a while seems to clear it up for a while but then using it for a half hour or so slow the graphics down again.

This is happening even if I have a bare minimum of widgets running. (Open Home, Power Control and a couple one-click control widgets.)

RE: Slow in switching screens - Added by trs almost 2 years ago

I've allotted a lot of space from the bitmap image to compensate for my widgets, they pretty much all run perfectly.

But I still think it is a processor issue; I will start task killing and see if that fixes it
does anyone know a good task killer?

I use Advanced Task Manager.

Task manager helped a little. But still a problem.

Can one of you guys log a bug report immediately after the hang/lag and describe the problem in detail in the email...

RE: Slow in switching screens - Added by seedubs13 almost 2 years ago
